For Those Who Take Their Faith Seriously: An Evangelism Primer

I. Introduction:

To be used of the LORD in preaching, teaching, or any other area of service for Him (Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1, 4, 14, 26; Ephesians 4:11) ia the highest and noblest responsibility we have as His followers.

  1. We can all be used by Jesus to win souls (2 Corinthians 4:7).
  2. No title, degree, or status is needed. Sharing our faith can be done by anyone, anytime (Luke 21:14-15).
  3. We need to have a willing and obedient heart for the LORD and love for Him (John 14:23; 1 John 2:17).
  4. We need to see the world as He does; lost and helpless (Matthew 9:34-36; Luke 19:10). These are not only “the lost sheep of the house of Israel” but describe everyone. Every second, a soul goes into eternity; either saved or lost FOREVER! (Matthew 25:41, 46; Mark 9:43-48; Luke 12:13-21, 16:19-31; 1 Corinthians 3:11-15; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:11-15).

Your Personal Preparation for the Task Ahead:

In evangelism, or any area of service for the Lord Jesus Christ for that matter, the message of new life in Christ must be evident in your own life (Matthew 7:3-5) before you go tell others about it. Makes sense, doesn’t it? Do YOU believe in the Jesus in whom you are preparing to share with others? Does your life and character show evidence of confirmation or confrontation? Here is another question to consider: On what do you base your assumption?

  1. Our true nature apart from God is clearly presented in Scripture (Isaiah 64:6; Jeremiah 31:3; Romans 3:10-20, 23, 6:23).
  2. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can redeem and reconcile us before a Holy God and HIs absolute standards (John 3:16, 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 5:6-11, 10:9-10, 13; 1 John 2:1-2).
  3. It is Jesus Christ and HIM ALONE who provides salvation, mercy, and eternal life. We are saved by and through HIs grace (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Personally, I have NEVER made the assumption that the people to whom I am speaking or writing are truly saved. To share the Gospel, you must know the Gospel and the ONE who is the centerpiece of salvation.
